Born and raised in Japan, Junko is a singer-songwriter with passion for expression of emotion and communication through song. Her musical foundation is a classical piano, but her original music she had started to write about a little over 2 years is an eclectic mix of blues, folk, jazz, R&B, and Rock. She writes from her personal experiences and she often thinks her songs are almost like utterance. She sings in English and Japanese on piano, guitar and electric bass.

In the misty dawn of 2009, an ancient race of singers, known only as Hengemen, came together to perform oddly likable songs and clever harmonies. With flowing beards that indicated rare encounters with sharp objects, these primordial warblers left their vocal legacy hewn into the rock-solid a cappella of Tonehenge. Now comprised of six mostly clean-shaven businessmen from the greater Boston area, Tonehenge performances have ranged from a soaring National Anthem to kick off a Lowell Spinners game to opening for Ball in the House.

Please join us for what promises to be an evening of good home spun folk music with the hospitality to match.

Tickets and refreshments will be available at 7 pm. General admission is $12. Students’ (with valid high school or college ID) admission is $8 and child’s admission is $4. Refreshments on sale include homemade pies, cakes and cookies, coffee, tea and soda.

The Coffee House on the Rocky Plain is thrilled be kicking off our third season on Saturday November 12, 2011. Please join us for some new acts and the return of Ergo Canto who is back by popular demand to get the evening and season started for us. Coffee House on the Rocky Plain will also be collecting coats for WUMB and UMass Boston's Gold Key society “Share the Warmth”, there will be discounted admission for anyone bringing in coats.

Randall Kromm creates music that touches people, performing beautifully crafted songs of ordinary life that capture experiences and feelings we all share.  Kromm employs a variety of musical styles to convey stories of love, family, hope and uncertainty with insight and wit.  His songs and live performances are leavened with humor, enabling the audience to laugh about life’s challenges and difficulties.

New England performing legend Don White covered the song “Water Wheel” on his 2010 release Winning Streak.  White, who has recorded 11 CDs, had never covered another artist’s music, but says the song “spoke to me deeply and immediately.  My hope is that now lots of people will make the effort to discover the work of this very talented man.”  http://www.randallkromm.com/

The Lenny Solomon Band is a vocal-oriented, primarily acoustic band that combines intelligent thoughtful lyrics, melodies one can hum, a variety of rhythmic styles, and instrumental improvisation that creates an eclectic sound that incorporates several musical genres. All of the songs performed by the band are written by lead singer/guitarist, Lenny Solomon. Much of the music is a product of Lenny's roots as a folk musician.  http://solomonband.com/

Ergo Canto (therefore we sing)—the folk music duo opens the evening’s entertainment. Paul Beck and Leslie Bryant, perform a wide variety of original songs, covers, and traditional folk material.  In addition to vocals, you may hear six and twelve string guitars, fiddle, flute, mandolin, and harmonica. Paul Beck recently took early retirement from a high tech career to focus on music, woodworking, and crossword puzzles.  He plays guitars, mandolin, cittern, and banjo. Leslie Bryant teaches in the Boston school system.  Traveling to Peru frequently she donates instruments and printed music to the school in Cusco. She plays fiddle, flute, pennywhistle, and percussion. Visit Ergo Canto's website http://www.ergocanto.org. Hear them play at http://myspace.com/ergocanto

Looking for a wonderful way to celebrate the special mother in your life? Why not bring her to a night filled with wonderful music performed by some of the best singer-songwriters around and a special local treat. On Saturday, May 7, 2011 The Coffee House on the Rocky Plain will be hosting Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School’s very own Acafellas, followed by Linda, Bob and Friends, and ending the night will be Cooper and Kenneally.

Please join us for what promises to be an evening of good home spun folk music with the hospitality to match.

The Acafellas are an all-male group from Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School. The LS Acafellas formed in March 2008 and perform contemporary music without the use of instruments. They promise to entertain and delight.

Linda Abrams and Bob Phillipps are long-time aficionados and performers of traditional folk tunes. Linda’s lovely “melodic claw hammer” banjo style, along with Bob’s solid guitar support, brings a unique beauty to their repertoire. Both Linda and Bob have been winners at the Lowell Banjo and Fiddle Contest, and have performed in numerous musical configurations over the years. Notably, Linda is a member of the Moody Street String Band from Waltham.

For this concert, Linda and Bob are inviting their friends Nina Bohlen and Thom Roach to join them on stage for a lively mixture of French, English, and Celtic tunes. Nina adds her hurdy-gurdy to the mix, and Thom performs on concertina.

Pat Kenneally and Rick Cooper play an entertaining mix of roots, folk-rock, rockabilly, country and blues. Rick has been playing guitar, singing and generally annoying the neighbors since 1959 after hearing the Everly Brothers on his first transistor radio. Pat also credits the Everly Brothers as an influence and at the age of four refused to give up the microphone at a family gathering while performing her rendition of 'Bye Bye Love’. Their music has been described as ‘strains of early rock and roll and the Chet Atkins/Johnny Cash country that we all know and love, along with some folk-pop which is a totally different beast’. Come and hear them perform and you will experience a show that fans call, “poised, polished, and very funny”, not to mention “seriously wicked cool”.

Tickets and refreshments will be available at 7 pm. General admission is $12. Students’ (with valid high school or college ID) admission is $8 and child’s admission is $4. Refreshments on sale include homemade pies, cakes and cookies, coffee, tea and soda.

On Saturday, March 12, 2011 First Parish Sudbury Unitarian Universalist will once again be bringing you a night filled with wonderful music performed by some of the best singer-songwriters around. Nancy Beaudette is an award winning singer/songwriter who has been on tour and in the studio several times.  The Pavao Family Band is a wonderfully creative trio who will be starting the night off for us.  Although their group is young the songs they sing and the style in which they performed make you think they have been around for a lot longer.

Please join us for what promises to be an evening of good home spun folk music with the hospitality to match..

Nancy Beaudette fills the stage with fun, upbeat performances in true troubadour fashion. Her writing is reminiscent of singer songwriters of the sixties and seventies, and has the emotional edge of a woman with some heartfelt life experience. "I want to write music without having to edit personal feelings.” She doesn’t just write songs, she paints them. When you listen to her music you may find yourself seeing pictures, glimpsing a rich palette of colors in her guitar playing, and noticing that the beautiful honesty of her voice and her lyrics points directly to your own heart. Come to one of Beaudette’s shows and you will experience first-hand all the warmth and welcome of a Canadian kitchen party!  On-stage and off, Nancy practices hometown hospitality, taking special pleasure in “greeting you at the door.”  Blending brave and honest song-writing, first-rate musicianship, and a huge helping of native Canadian wit and generosity, Nancy Beaudette is an artist of signs and songs and heart – and all the signs point to rousing success! To learn more about Nancy http://nancybeaudette.com

We are very lucky to have the Pavao Family Band performing for us in March as this will be one of their rare performances during the school year. The Pavao Family Band is the creative collaboration of Steve Pavao and his sons Victor and Aidan. This band does everything together as a family, from performing to making decisions about how to market and produce their music. They started playing music together during the boys' grade school years in  the summer of 2010. As Victor turned 14 and Aidan 12, they recorded their first CD single containing two of their best known original songs, "Time to Go" and "Block Island Song".  Then they commenced on a month-long tour of widely-varied venues in RI, MA, and NH during August to share the new songs.  Steve is still writing and performing very actively, and is embarking on a U.S Northeast tour in late March to share his music with a wider audience.  His solo version of his song "My Beautiful Friend", long a staple of Pavao Family Band performances, will be appearing on the forthcoming compilation being produced by The Starving Artist Collective in Keene, NH. For more information http://pavaofamilyband.com

Tickets and refreshments will be available at 7 pm. General admission is $12. Students’ (with valid high school or college ID) admission is $8 and child’s admission is $4. Refreshments on sale include homemade pies, cakes and cookies, , coffee, tea and soda.

The Coffee House on the Rocky Plain presents Camille Breeze, John Boehmer and Jon McAuliffe on Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Camille Breeze emerged on the Boston-area acoustic music scene in 2004. Combining her musical theater background with her love of a cappella, pop and roots music, Camille has been called "the sultress of song" and "a local treasure." Camille brings her powerful vocals and stirring storytelling to audiences throughout New England as a solo act as well as in collaboration with singer/songwriter John Boehmer and the duet Ergo Canto. For three years Camille was the host of the Cape Coffeehouse and she has opened for Don White and Vance Gilbert. Her debut CD In Love was released in February, 2010, and contains covers and original songs about love, loss, lust, and redemption, spanning the last 75 years.

Jon McAuliffe is a singer/songwriter who was first encouraged in that endeavor by Joni Mitchell while she was still an unknown.  He began performing in 1965 in Virginia while still in his teens. There he shared stages with blues singer Doug MacLeod, future New Traditionalist Emmylou Harris and others. By 1971 Jon had recorded his first album for Warner Bros. with the band Thirty Days Out (both albums were reissued on CD last summer).

Jon has worked with artists as stylistically divergent as The Cars, Andy Pratt, The J. Geils Band, Tim Hardin, Capt. Beefheart, The Beach Boys, George Carlin, Patti LaBelle, Buskin & Batteau, Guy Clark, Les Sampou, and more.  Jon's forthcoming solo CD, produced by Seth Connelly, will be released in the spring.

Our January 22 show will also be 'Warm Clothes, Warm Hearts' night. Just bring any gently used jackets, coats, gloves, mittens, and hats to our show and they will be distributed to those in need at area homeless shelters.

Doors open at 7:00pm, music at 7:30pm.  General admission is $12.  Student admission (with valid high school or college ID) is $8.  Homemade apple pie, cakes and cookies will be available for purchase.  Proceeds will benefit First Parish Sudbury and The Music School project in Cusco, Peru.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Coffee House on the Rocky Plain presents Tom Smith on Saturday, Nov 6, 2010

SUDBURY, MASS., November 6, 2010—The Coffee House on the Rocky Plain opens on Saturday, November 6th.  Located at First Parish Sudbury Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, tickets will be on sale at 7pm.

The Coffee House on the Rocky Plain announces its second-season kick-off with Tom Smith, the brilliant singer-songwriter, joined by his daughter Mally Smith.

Tom interweaves old folk songs with his original songs that are reminiscent of the very best of the old school folk tradition. Presenting an easy-going and engaging style, Tom’s roots are in the 60’s Cambridge folk scene.  Tom has performed at concerts, folk festivals, coffee houses, and schools throughout the Northeast US.  His monthly folk music blog, “The Kitchen Musician” can be viewed at TomSmithMusic.com.  The Boulder Coffeehouse, Colorado tells us that he “brings a rich and deep portfolio of well-crafted songs delivered in fine, tastefully understated fashion and with a dry wit guaranteed to put a smile on any face.”

Keeping it in the family, emerging indie artist, Mally Smith will join her father. Mally will remind you of a young Shawn Colvin, combining original songs, well-chosen covers and tasteful guitar, with a voice that will capture your heart.

The Drewbadour, a local singer-songwriter, opens the show at 7:30pm.  Drew Stevens writes and performs beautiful, touching love songs, as well as extremely clever and amusing songs.  You may know him as the host of the Maynard Public Library open mike “Unplugged”, the first Thursday of each month.

First Parish Sudbury presents the Coffee House on the Rocky Plain Premiere Live Music

Featured performers March 27th are The Dawn Kenney Band and Ergo Canto.

Something new is perking in our historical town center. Inspired by what the colonial settlers named the location of the 1797 meetinghouse of First Parish Sudbury — the rocky plain refers to the glacial landscape that none of the original settlers wanted to farm thus the religious society got it by default.

On Saturday, March 27th, at 7:00 pm, ‘The Coffee House on the Rocky Plain’ premieres its first coffee house showcasing two outstanding local musical groups. The evening’s proceeds benefit the Instituto Superior de Musica Publico Leandro Alvina Miranda in Cusco, Peru to purchase instruments and supplies and First Parish Sudbury Unitarian Universalist.

We invite you to hear:

The Dawn Kenney Band — our featured act. Kenney, winner of numerous songwriting and performance awards and published in American Songwriter magazine, crafts songs that move between bluegrass, folk and country styles. With messages that are positive and uplifting, her songs speak of relationships, family and those things common to the human experience that resonate with all of us. Her band includes Eric Kilburn on Mandolin and Dobro, Rich Stillman on Banjo & Don Barry on Upright Bass. To hear a few musical selections go Dawn's MySpace Page.  To view her awards and more information go to dawnkenney.com

Ergo Canto (therefore we sing)— the folk music duo opens the evening’s entertainment. She plays fiddle, flute, pennywhistle, and percussion. Her sponsorship of the music school in Peru includes bringing instruments and sheet music. Visit Ergo Canto's website ergocanto.org. Hear them play at Ergo Canto's myspace page.

Tickets and refreshments will be available at 7 pm. General admission is $12. Refreshments include savories and sweets. Performance begins at 7:30 pm.  Join us for an evening of really good live music in our historic meetinghouse.
