English Country Dancing

with What is English Country Dancing?

The dances will be both sets of three or four couples and long lines of couples. Each dance will be taught by Tom Kruskal - great for beginners and the experienced, too. Music will be provided by Debra Morris-Bennett and the Kitchen Band.

English Country Dance Schedule for 2003-2004

Dances Start at 7:15 PM of the first Friday of the month

With a couple of exceptions.

  • Friday - October 3rd
  • Thanksgiving SATURDAY November 29th
  • * no dance in December *
  • January *TBD* maybe Saturday the 10th
  • Friday - February 6th
  • Friday - March 5th
  • Friday - April 2nd
  • Friday - May 6th

Beginners welcome!

Singles and those with non dancing partners are also welcome!

Young dancers welcome!

Water and juice provided. Donations accepted. Bring dessert or other beverages if you wish.

Beginner's and those interested in the history of English Country dances arrive at 7:15 PM to learn.
The first dance - easy - starts at 7:20
The second dance starts at 7:45 or so, slightly harder
Third dance will be modestly challenging - depending on the level of the dancers.
Then a 4th dance and perhaps repeat the evening favorite.

What started as a reprise of the temendously successful Jane Austen Ball fundraiser in 1997 has become a regular event at First Parish.

English Country Dances 2002/2003

  • November 22nd (Friday before Thanksgiving)
  • February 21st - reschedule from blizzard of 7 February.
  • March 7th at 7:15 PM
  • April 4th at 7:15 PM
  • May 2nd at 7:15 PM
The Folk Arts Center of New England maintains a list of other English Country Dance in the area. And NEFFA has a dance list that is more global in nature.
