MINDFULNESS MEDITATION
Thursdays, 1- 2:30 p.m. starting September 2010 _______________________________________________________________ "Awareness meditation is a way of opening our attention to the truth of whet is present. We do not selectively pay attention to pleasant things and ignore or push away the unpleasant. We open choicelessly, to what is positive and joyous as much as to the suffering that we find. Meeting each moment without resistance, we discover unsuspected beauty in our hearts, minds, and bodies, and in the world around us.This is the way of meditation." - Gavin Harrison, In the Lap of the Buddha _______________________________________________________ This group provides a setting to learn about and to practice meditation and, for those who are interested, to receive support for the development of a regular meditation practice at home. Together we will explore mindfulness practices and their effects on our own experiences of everyday life. These meetings are open to people with little or no experience in meditation as well as to experienced practitioners anyone who is simply curious and would like to come check it out is most welcome. Each meeting will include: - a meditation period of 30 minutes, with simple instruction and guidance - a period of walking meditation - a time to discuss readings - time for questions and discussion of participants' experiences of meditation We will also take time to discuss the benefits of meditation, which include the cultivation of insight and compassion, as well as increased physical, emotional and mental well-being. ________________________________________________________________ Laine Gifford is the group facilitator. Laine has been a student of Buddhist teachings for more than 20 years and has taught meditation in various settings.
