Mentor Relationships
- In addition, each youth will meet with his/her mentor individually a minimum of three times. Once in November or December to get to know each other and talk about why they are both UU. The second in January, February, or March to plan and do a Community Service or Social Justice project together. The third in April or May for individual support with credo creating.
Some questions to guide the mentor/mentee teams …
What do I believe about my religion? What do I believe about my spirituality?
What do I believe is my moral responsibility?
What do I believe matters most to me?
What do I believe is important about First Parish of Sudbury? Why do I come?
What do I believe I important about Unitarian Universalism? Why am I UU?
Please see FPS mentor guidelines and policy for more information about safety and expectations within this relationship.
Second Sundays Spirituality Series for Youth Group
All Coming-of-Age youth are highly and enthusiastically encouraged to join the Youth Group teens for more spiritual exploration and work. (You are welcome to join with them for any activities, but this is particularly relevant to your Coming-of-Age journey.)
Sunday, September 13 from 7 to 9pm: Ingathering Worship and Celebration
We will start our year together with a worship service sharing our summer stories and exploring our dreams for the coming year. What do you hope to get out of your First Parish experiences this year? We will conclude with a celebratory time to enjoy the start of another year together!
Sunday, October 11 from 7 to 9pm: Art and the UU Principles
We will use art as a form to explore our UU principles, what they mean to us, and how we can share them with others
Sunday, November 8 from 7 to 9pm: Commercials and Elevator Speeches
We will explore what is great about Unitarian Universalism and First Parish by creating commercials and elevator speeches (a one minute response to the questions: “What is Unitarian Universalism?”, “What do Unitarian Universalists believe?”, and “Why do you go to First Parish?”.)
Sunday, December 13 from 7 to 9pm: Unplugging the Holidays
We will explore the winter holidays and consider the commercial and societal messages we get about these holidays as we dream of how we would like to celebrate the holidays this year.
Sunday, January 10 from 7 to 9pm: Meditation
Steve Johnson will be joining us as we explore concrete easy-to-try meditation activities that have worked for him to quiet the inner chatter in our minds to sincerely experience meditation.
Sunday, February 14 from 7 to 9pm: Icons and Altars
We will explore some famous leaders and symbols that are so important to some people that they are held up as an icon or placed on an altar. This exploration is the beginning of our own journey to considering what is most important to us.
Sunday, March 14 from 7 to 9pm: Worship
We will explore different forms of worship and work together to help plan the Youth Sunday service happening next week on March 21st.
Sunday, April 11 from 7 to 9pm: What do I believe?
With the Coming-of-Age service happening next month, we will all take some time to consider and explore what we believe. How have our beliefs changed or evolved over the last year? or last ten years? How might we imagine our beliefs changing as we get older? We will make spiritual timelines or life story art work.
Sunday, May 9 from 7 to 9pm: Prayer Flags
We will explore what is important to us individually and collectively as we make our own prayer flags.
Sunday, June 13 from 7 to 9pm: Closing Worship and Celebration
We will explore and reflect upon what we have learned this year, how we have grown, and how we may have changed … both as individuals and as a group. We will give thanks for our year together and then share a fun celebration end on a high note.
